“But wisdom is proved right by her actions” (Matthew 11:18). “By their fruit you will recognize them” (Matthew 7:16). When I first saw the words “Global Leadership Summit” in a worship bulletin, I was curious as to how this was connected to God’s mission at Lake Avenue Church in making disciples (Matthew 28:19).
From the first one I attended, I was hooked on the wisdom from world class speakers and challenged with putting them into action. The constant challenge of being equipped
to bear fruit for God’s kingdom in this changing world is what keeps me coming back.
Here are some examples:
- Keep your “to do” lists short. Mine had been too long at the beginning of the day and many end up on tomorrow’s list and the day after.
- “Humble, hungry and smart” (EQ not just IQ) are characteristics of people you want to work with. I use these three to choose teammates.
- Use your hands when you communicate, it is often the first thing people notice. This is especially valuable in virtual meetings.
- Tell a story to make your point compelling. In grandparenting and in the courtroom the effectiveness has been remarkable. Think parables.
- The younger generation learns differently than how you learned so teach differently than you were taught. The positive change I saw immediately was remarkable.
- Effective leaders lead with humility, transparency, empathy, clear communication, and consistency. It’s hard to find, but you see it too.
Do not be intimidated by the name “Global Leadership Summit.” It’s for you. It is a unique opportunity and I invite you to join me at this year’s Summit.
