Born into a DIY (Do It Yourself) family, I grew up surrounded by creativity and service. My father constructed church facilities, my mother stitched banners and taught Bible School crafts. I contributed posters and decorations. Art was more than a hobby—it was an expression of faith.
In 1971, I discovered ceramics, which led to a series of art fairs, galleries, teaching, and finally
a museum directorship. Yet, despite my achievements, I felt unfulfilled. Messages on Christian purpose made me reflect on using my talents for more than personal success.
The Covid epidemic, increasing gas prices, and my diminishing eyesight made travel between my Arcadia home and my Pomona Church challenging. I set out to find a new church.
On the internet Crafts for a Cause (CFAC) at Lake Avenue Church caught my attention. Members volunteer to use their God-given crafting talents as a way to serve the Lord. I became a member of LAC and joined CFAC. Over the past 2-1/2 years I have been selling my pottery to raise funds for Missional Outreach activities. Our group meets to create crafts on Saturdays from 12:30 to 4 pm. Each session ends with a Bible study and prayer. Some of us contribute crafts that we make at home. Donations of craft materials or greeting cards are appreciated. In the church lobby we need help to set up, sell, and take down on the first and third Sundays of the month.
CFAC has enriched my life, shifting my focus away from recognition to finding joy in creativity, fellowship, and serving the Lord. Join me at CFAC.
