From July 20-26, our mission team had the incredible opportunity to serve in Belize, focusing our efforts on the communities of Shawville and Benque. This week was not only a time of hard work and dedication but also one of deep connection and spiritual growth as we witnessed the impact of our contributions on the local communities.
Building a Legacy in Benque
One of the primary projects during our time in Belize was the construction of a church in Benque. Our team took on the challenging yet rewarding task of building the church's roof. This was not just about laying down beams and panels. It was about creating a space that would serve as a beacon of hope and faith for the community. Every nail hammered and every board set in place was done with the knowledge that this church would stand as a lasting testament to God’s love and provision.
Beyond the roof, we engaged in various smaller tasks that, although less visible, were just as important. From clearing debris to organizing materials, every effort contributed to the overall mission. These acts, though simple, carried a significant kingdom effect, reminding us that even the smallest actions can have a profound impact on the lives of others.
Reaching Young Hearts in Shawville
While part of our team focused on construction, another group dedicated their time to the children of Shawville by hosting a Vacation Bible School (VBS). The joy and energy of the children were infectious. It was a privilege to share stories of faith, sing songs of praise, and engage in activities that brought smiles and laughter. Through these interactions, we were able to plant seeds of faith that we trust will grow and flourish in the years to come.
The VBS was more than just a program. It was an opportunity to connect with the next generation, teaching them about God’s love and the importance of community. The relationships formed during this time were deeply meaningful, and it was evident that the time spent with these children left a lasting impression on both them and us.
A Kingdom Effect
As we reflect on our week in Belize, it’s clear that the work we did was more than just physical labor—it was a manifestation of God’s kingdom on Earth. Whether through the construction of the church or the joyful moments spent with the children, each task was a step toward creating a lasting impact in these communities.
The memories and experiences from this trip will stay with us for a long time, and we trust that the seeds we planted, both literally and figuratively, will continue to grow. Our hearts are full of gratitude for the opportunity to serve and for the ways in which God used us to make a difference.
As we return home, we carry with us the lessons learned and the connections made, eager to see how God will continue to work in the lives of those we served and in our own lives as well.
