Love Thy Neighbor

SummerFest 2024 at Lake Avenue Church was a fantastic experience, especially since I got to bring my mom and sisters along. It was their first time at Lake Avenue Church, and since they aren’t believers, it took some convincing to get them there. Thankfully, my enthusiasm and the promise of a good time won them over.

The festival had everything you could want—games, music, food, and drinks. The moment we arrived, the cheerful sounds and lively atmosphere set the tone for a fun day. My mom and sisters were pleasantly surprised by the variety of activities and the friendly, welcoming vibe.

They had the chance to meet many of my friends from church and interact with the wider community at Lake. What really impressed them was the genuine kindness and warmth of everyone they met. They got to see what being a disciple of Jesus looks like through the actions and attitudes of the people there, rather than through any formal religious discussions.

By the end of the day, both my mom and two sisters had enjoyed themselves and appreciated the people they met. SummerFest 2024 wasn’t just a day of fun, it also gave them a positive view of the community and faith that I’m a part of.

The theme for SummerFest this year was Love Thy Neighbor. Praise God over 400 people attended the event on Saturday, July 13. Many of our guests and friends came to Lake Avenue Church campus for the first time! Children and families gathered—sharing meals and laughter together. The amazing music of Aretha Scruggs, J’Mike O’Neal, Cameron Evans and team, Galaxy Shores, DJ Dipo (a member of Lake), and Michael Girgis filled the air; people danced, and sang long into the night! It was such a joy to witness a community coming together. We are looking very excited about and look forward to SummerFest 2025!
